Super-HI Girders

At HEB, we’re helping to revolutionise construction in New Zealand through our locally made Super-HI Girders – a first for the country.

Super-HI Girders are designed for longer spans with fewer supports and superior structural efficiency. We’ve not only enhanced their strength, but also reduced transport costs – as it’s all manufactured within New Zealand.

This is a game-changer for Kiwi bridge construction, offering a more cost-effective sustainable solution compared to steel bridges, which currently rely on offshore manufacturing of steel plates.

Benefits of Super-HI Girders

Cost Savings

Our Super-HI Girders reduce the number of beams required, minimising material costs. This results in significant savings on your overall project budget.

Durability

Super-HI Girders are engineered with longevity in mind, able to withstand various environmental challenges to ensure your bridge remains safe and reliable for years to come.

Efficiency

Utilising more efficient design and fewer beams makes construction of Super-HI Girders quicker, and facilitates faster installation too. This helps your project progress more rapidly, easing pressure on tight deadlines.

Versatility

Super-HI Girders are adaptable to a wide range of projects, making them an ideal choice for diverse construction needs. Their current mould configuration allows for construction of girders 1.5 to 2.2 metres deep.

Super-HI Girders FAQs

To help you navigate your options when it comes to our innovative new Super-HI Girders, these are the common questions we’re asked:

What are the advantages of using Super-HI Girders over traditional girders?

Super-HI Girders can be built with greater spans and fewer supports than traditional girders, leading to reduced material costs and easier installation. Typically we see savings of around 25% total material costs compared to a standard bridge.

Does it have cover issues?

No, the Super-HI can achieve the cover requirements for all exposure classifications.

What is the longest Super-HI Girder available?

Based on the current mould and maximum NZ highway transport lengths, the maximum concrete section we can manufacture is 41.5 metres. But for greater lengths, the beams can be site spliced.

What types of materials are used in the Super-Hi Girder?

Super-HI Girders are constructed from a minimum of 60 MPa concrete that provides exceptional durability and lower maintenance under various loads and conditions.

Can the Super-HI Girder be customised for specific projects?

Absolutely. We offer standard sections of 1.5 to 2.2 metres in depth, and can vary any length to suit. Higher-strength concrete is available on request.

What kind of maintenance do Super-HI Girders require?

Super-HI Girders require periodic inspections and minor maintenance to ensure their longevity and safety over time. Their robust design minimises the need for more extensive upkeep.
